What's nearby - cafes, the village, and the lakefront Lake Tekapo village is a five-minute walk away, with cafes, restaurants, the Four Square supermarket and the information centre all close by. For coffee, try The Greedy Cow Cafe or Jack Rabbit; for dinner with a view, Dark Sky Diner sits right on the lakefront. The Church of the Good Shepherd and the walking paths along the water's edge are just a short stroll further on.

Stargazing in the Dark Sky Reserve

Lake Tekapo sits within the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, one of the largest dark sky reserves in the world. On a clear night, the sky is visible right from Roam Lake Tekapo - or take the short drive up to Mount John Observatory for guided stargazing and views across the Mackenzie Basin.

Things to do near Roam Lake Tekapo

Walk the lakefront, visit the Church of the Good Shepherd, or take a soak at Tekapo Springs. Mount John has walking tracks with views over the lake and basin, and Aoraki Mount Cook is an easy day trip from the village.
